Gunmen Attack Another Divisional HQ In Imo

Bandits have again attacked Amandugba Divisional Police Headquarters in Isu Local Government Area of Imo State.

Gatekeepers News report that the attackers threw inflammable substances at the police facility, which triggered the fire.

A villager, who did not want his name mentioned, said:” Isu Divisional Police Headquarters is on fire now. Fire has engulfed the facility. The attackers threw explosives objects and it caught fire immediately.”

It was recorded as the fourth Divisional Police Headquarters razed in less than one week in Imo State.

Development from recent attacks within the state has caused more tension, as the people of the state also complied with the “sit-at-home” order which was declared by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Following the order, all the 27 local council areas of the state, experienced a total seizure of activities, as everyone remained indoors.

Gatekeepers News gathered that Kanu had issued the no-movement directive to mark what is termed as the “Biafra Day”; a reference to May 30, 1967, the day the General Yakubu Gowon-led Federal Government declared a full-blown war with the then Eastern Regional Government headed by the late Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, for declaring the section of the country an independent nation to be known as the Republic of Biafra.

48 hours to the D-Day (today), security personnel were seen to be shooting indiscriminately as a show of strength, to warn IPOB members of the readiness of the government to protect the citizens.

However, Kanu insisted that though IPOB shifted the day from May 30, being a Sunday, to allow Christians to worship in churches, the Monday date for the sit-at-home order remained fixed.

Amidst the order, gunmen suspected to be IPOB members stormed the Amandugba Divisional Police Headquarters to burn down the station and attack the security officers on duty.

Imo State has been experiencing a series of attacks lately, especially on security formations.

On April 5, armed men invaded the headquarters of the state Police Command and the Nigerian Correctional Service in Owerri, burnt the facilities, and freed over 1,800 inmates.

A few days later, the country home of the state governor, Hope Uzodinma in Omuma, Oru East Local Government Area of the state was invaded by gunmen.

On May 29, Saturday night, Gunmen were reported to have razed the Atta Divisional Police Headquarters in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State.

The attackers shot sporadically for more than one hour before setting the station ablaze.
