Buhari Urges Senate To Confirm Yahaya As COAS

President Buhari has written to the Senate to confirm Yahaya as the COAS.

Gatekeepers News reports that President, Muhammadu Buhari, has asked the Nigerian Senate to confirm the appointment of Major General Faruk Yahaya, as the new Chief of Army Staff.

Buhari, in a letter to the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, on Tuesday, urged the federal lawmakers to speedily attend to his request.

Lawan read the letter during Tuesday’s plenary:

“I hereby forward for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of Faruk Yahaya as the Chief of Army Staff of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“His CV is herewith attached. It is my hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the nominee in the usual expeditious manner.

“Please accept Distinguish Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration.”

On May 27, Gatekeepers News reported the appointment of Yahaya as the new COAS.

His nomination is coming after the death of former Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru who died alongside 10 others in an ill-fated NAF aircraft on May 21.

Yahaya is a member of the 37th Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy. Until his appointment, he was the Theatre Commander, Operation Had in Kai, an outfit for counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations in the North East.

The new Army Chief speaks Arabic, English, Hausa and Spanish languages fluently.

He holds a Bachelors of Arts Degree in History and a Masters Degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy.
