Emir of Ilorin has reteirated the need to arm the Federal Road Safety Corps.
Gatekeepers News reports the Emir of Ilorin, and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Chiefs, His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Sulu Gambari, has reiterated the need for the Federal Government of Nigeria to arm officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps.
The Emir while hosting the new FRSC’s Zone RS8 Commanding Officer, Clement Oladele, in his palace at Ilorin, said this will help defend the officers against criminal elements, whenever on patrol.
Gambari while relaying his initial encounter with the FRSC in the early 90’s, applauded the swift response and professionalism displayed by the team on that day.
He noted that in the course of interacting with the FRSC Officials, he learnt that they are exposed to danger due to all manners of motorists both friendly and harmful, which they deal with.
According to him, he has been agitating for them to be armed since then.
The Emir stated that arming the FRSC now is even more appropriate considering the level of insecurity across some sections of the county.
Oladele on his arrival, had commended the Royal Father for his support to highway safety in the country and solicited his blessings and support to make highways safer in Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti States where he superitents road safety activities.
The new Zone RS8 Commander before his new appointment was the immediate past Commandant of the prestigious FRSC Academy in Enugu State.
