Twitter Pulls Down Buhari’s Tweet

Twitter has pulled down President Muhammadu Buhari’s threat tweet.

Gatekeepers News reports that the microblog Twitter has deleted President Muhammadu Buhari’s tweet wherein he threatened to treat Nigerians “misbehaving” in “the language they understand”.

Buhari in the tweet shared on Tuesday about the civil war experience and threatened to deal with those “bent on destroying” Nigeria through “insurrection.”

The President stated, “Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.”

Following the public outcry of Nigerians, the microblogging site deleted the tweet from the thread, on Wednesday.

According to Twitter, “This tweet violated the Twitter rules.”

In a related development, citizens have been calling for the suspension of the President’s account.

However, it is not immediately clear if the platform will take further action against Buhari.

According to the outcry, the bloody civil war where millions were killed, was a threat to human rights violation according to Twitter.

Nigerians also argued that the president’s tweet “expresses intentions of self-harm or suicide”, as stated on Twitter’s usage policy.

Gatekeepers News gathered that Twitter Rules prohibit actions violence, abuse, hateful conduct, bullying amongst others.

According to the micro-blogging site: “Threaten violence against an individual or a group of people; engage in the targeted harassment of someone, or incite other people to do so, nor promote violence against, threaten, or harass other people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, caste, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease.”
