Police Council has confirmed the appointment of Usman Alkali Baba as the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Gatekeepers News reports that the Minister of Police Affairs Maigari Dingyadi says the Police Council has unanimously confirmed Usman Alkali Baba as the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Baba as the new IGP on April 6 in replacement of Mohammed Adamu.
Dingyadi who confirmed the appointment in a briefing stated that Baba was confirmed on Friday during a meeting of the council in Abuja which was presided by President Buhari.
According to him, this was after the meeting quoted the President as urging the IGP to justify the confidence reposed on him by reducing the rising wave of insecurity in the country.
The meeting was earlier billed for last week but postponed to honour the late Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru, and ten other military officers who died in a plane crash on May 21.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo physically graced the meeting alongside other top government officials: the Chief of staff to the President, Ibrahim Gambari; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; National Security Adviser, Babagana Munguno; Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Musiliu Smith; Ministers of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola; Police Affairs, Mohammed Dingyadi.
Also in physical attendance was the Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi.
The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, and the Minister of FCT, Mohammed Bello, however, graced the occasion virtually.
