#EndSARS: NEC To Review States Judicial Panels Reports

National Economic Council (NEC) is set to review the outcome of the judicial panels set up in states.

Gatekeepers News reports that the National Economic Council (NEC) is set to review the outcome of the judicial panels set up in states to deal with allegations of police brutality raised by Nigerian youths leading to the October 2020 EndSARS protests across the country.

The judicial panels were recommended after the adoption of a resolution by NEC to address nationwide complaints of police brutality after the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu dissolved the SARS.

Amid the #EndSARS protest, most states and the Federal Capital Territory set up the panels.

The council will convene a special session for this purpose as the panels set up by state governments have started to wind down their assignments.

This was part of the decision reached at the virtual meeting of NEC presided over by it Chairman, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, FCT.

Osinbajo announced that the special session of NEC will consider all the reports that are ready from the judicial panels concerning Nigerians who suffered brutality particularly in the hands of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and other related issues.

The meeting is also expected to consider the implementation of the reports including remedies, redress and compensations.
