Herbal mixture has killed 10 members of a family in Kwara State.
Gatekeepers News reports that 10 persons of the same household were confirmed dead after consuming suspected herbal concoction in Kwara State, North-central, Nigeria.
The herbal potion was allegedly prepared by one Okosi Musa and Worugura Junlin for one Mrs. Pennia Bonnie, aged 40, who had foot infection.
However, both Musa and Junlin were said to have recommended the concoction to members of the family to prevent the spread of the ailment.
The incident was said to have happened on the 16th of this month.
Spokesperson of the state police command Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed the incident.
Okasanmi said: “One Monday, this week one Ibrahim Bonnie aged 22 years of Fulani camp Biogberu, via Gwanara, reported at the police station that the suspects came to his mother by name Pennia Bonni of same Fulani camp, who was having a foot infection, with a local herbal mixture purported to be the cure for her ailment.
“She was also told to ensure that all her family members take the mixture to prevent the spread of the disease to other family members.
“After taking the local herbal mixture, the family members started dying one after the other. At the last count, 10 members, including the infected mother died.”
He said the command had launched a discreet investigation into the incident, adding that “the two suspects are already helping the police in their investigation”.
He urged “sick members of the public to seek medical solution in recognised medical homes in the state to avoid ugly incidents of this nature.”
“The suspects will have their day in court at the conclusion of investigation,” Okasanmi said.
