Troops have neutralised scores of bandits in Zamfara.
Gatekeepers News reports that troops of 8 Division Nigerian Army (NA) have overpowered bandits operating along Mayanchi-Dogo Karfe and Fagantama villages in Talata Marafa LGA of Zamfara State, Northwestern Nigeria.
The Army Spokesman, Onyema Nwachukwu in a statement on Saturday, said the troops neutralised the bandits while on a fighting patrol.
Nwachukwu said “in the fierce encounter that ensued, the bandits were overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the troops. This led to scores of bandits being neutralized.”
He added that one PKT riffle, a large cache of ammunition, and a motorcycle were recovered.
Similarly, the spokesman said troops have also neutralized 5 bandits in another encounter at Bingi village, in the Bungudu area of the state.
According to him, “during the gun duel, the bandits withdrew in disarray having sustained severe gunshot wounds.”
Nwachukwu noted that troops at the location, recovered one AK 47 riffle, one Motorcycle, and 3 mobile phones from the routed criminals.
Chief of Army Staff, Faruk Yahaya while appreciating the troops’ resilience and renewed vigor, “urged them to sustain the aggressive posture in order to defeat all criminal elements operating in the North West and other parts of the country.”
Yahaya also encouraged communities in the region to support the troops with useful information at all times to enhance anti-banditry operations.
