Members of the House of Representatives have received the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) report.
Gatekeepers News reports that the House of Representatives has received the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) report from the Chairman Ad Hoc Committee on PIB, Mohammed Monguno.
Monguno laid the report before the house during the plenary session on Wednesday.
He said, “That the house do receive the report of the ad–hoc committee on Petroleum Industry Bill on a bill for an act to provide legal, governance, regulatory and fiscal framework for the Nigerian Petroleum industry, the development of host communities; and for related matters, 2021 (HB. 1061).”
Afterward, the Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila asked members of the House to get a copy of the report ahead of its consideration.
On Tuesday, Gatekeepers News reported the Senate received its version of the report and is to consider it on Thursday.
Although PIB came into existence in 2008 under the former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, successive sessions of the National Assembly (NASS) have failed to pass the legislation owing to the complexities of the oil industry and divergent interests.
The current Assembly has, however, said it is committed to passing the bill.
Gbajabiamila on Tuesday stated that the PIB, electoral act amendment bill, and supplementary budget will be passed within two weeks i.e before the house embarks on its annual recess.
