Two Shot Dead As Soldiers Clash With Protesters In Ghana

Two persons have been shot dead after protesters clash with soldiers in Ghana.

Gatekeepers News reports that two persons have been shot dead as military clash with #FixTheCountry protesters in Ghana.

Four other persons were reportedly wounded in the fracas which took place at Ejura Sekyeredumase in the Ashanti Region of the country on Tuesday.

The #FixTheCountry protest was launched to express Ghanaian youths’ displeasure about the rising unemployment, inefficient health system, the skyrocketing cost of rent, poor road networks among other issues.

On Saturday, #FixTheCountry campaigner, Ibrahim Mohammed was was reportedly attacked by a mob.

Ibrahim later died on Monday at the Komfo Anokye Hospital where he was admitted.

The youths subsequently took to the street to protest his death and demanded justice.

A Ghanaian media reported that the protesters while demanding justice invaded the police station in the area and were reportedly dispersed with water cannons.

The protesters after leaving the police station, hit the street to continue the protest until they clashed with some security officers (soldiers and police) who were invited to restore peace in the vicinity.

According to reports, the soldiers shot into the air to disperse the youths but the protesters were undeterred and were said to have charged at the soldiers. The military started shooting into the crowd afterward.

A farmer, Abdul Yussuf, was reportedly shot in the shoulder and chest. He died while he was while being taken to hospital.

Another victim, Muntala Mohammed, who was a motor dealer was reportedly hit by a bullet in the chest and died 10 minutes after arriving at the hospital.

These killings have consequently generated criticisms against the government.

The Ghana police while calling for calm, noted that investigation into the circumstances that led to the killing of the protesters have begun.
