Spain will meet Italy at the Euro 2020 semifinal.
Gatekeepers News reports that Spain have defeated Switzerland, while Italy have defeated Belgium to qualify for the Euro 2020 semifinal.
Spain Goalkeeper, Unai Simon was the hero for Luis Enrique’s men as he edged past 10-man Switzerland 3-1 on penalties on Friday to set up a semi-final against Italy.
The Swiss tried so hard to make their the semi-finals of a major tournament for the first time in their history but Denis Zakaria’s own goal in the 8th minute gave the opponents a lead.
Xherdan Shaqiri’s at the 68th minute lighten up their hopes by giving them a draw. However, Remo Freuler was sent off the pitch 13 minutes to full-time making Vladimir Petkovic’s side a man down.
Although Switzerland goalkeeper Yann Sommer was the hero of the penalty shoot-out win over world champions France in the round of 16, he made a string of fine saves in extra time against the Spanish side but couldn’t at the penalties shoot-out.
Simon on the other hand, successfully saved Fabian Schaer and Manuel Akanji kicks, while Ruben Vargas blazed over in a tense finale as Spain snuck through, with Mikel Oyarzabal smashing home the winning spot-kick.
Meanwhile, Nicolò Barella and Lorenzo Insigne comfortably netted a goal each Friday to give Italy a 2-1 win over Belgium and of course a spot in the European Championship semifinals.
Although Inter Milan Romelu Lukaku pulled one back from the penalty spot right before halftime, the Belgians missed further chances to equalise before full-time.
On Sunday, Gatekeepers News reported that Italy extended their unbeaten run to 31 games after defeating Austria in round 16 of Euro 2020.
The national record-breaker has further extended it to 32 games unbeaten after defeating Belgium at Munich on Friday.
Luis Enrique’s men will take on the national record-breaker at Wembley on Tuesday.
