Twitter Ban: ECOWAS Court To Consolidate Suits Against FG July 9

Twitter Unveils New Updates
Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) court is set to consolidate suits challenging the Federal Government of Nigeria’s decision to ban Twitter‘s operation in the country on Friday, July 9, 2021.

Gatekeepers News reports that the date was fixed on Tuesday during a virtual sitting via zoom.

The Government on June 4, suspended the operation of the microblogging platform over alleged contents threatening the corporate existence of the country.

One of the suits was instituted by the Registered Trustees of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project against the Federal Government marked ECW/CCJ/APP/23/21.

Another was brought by the Media Rights Agenda and eight others against the Federal Government on the same issue marked ECW/CCJ/APP/29/21.

Gatekeepers News reports that a lawyer representing the Federal Government, Abdullahi Abubakar prayed for the leave of the court to consolidate the hearing of the applications.
