Nigeria’s basketball team have defeated Argentina 94-71 to record another win.
Gatekeepers News reports that in continuous preparation for the forthcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics, D’Tigers have defeated fourth-ranked Argentina with a 94-71 dominating win on Monday.
Although both teams in an exhibition in Las Vegas were physical in their approach, the South Americans led 19-17 at the end of the first quarter.
However, D’Tigers returned with more zeal in the second quarter, outscoring the Argentines 26-14 to take a 10-point lead into halftime 43-33.
Ekpe Udoh at the start of the second quarter, had a block before going on to score the first points of the quarter, while Precious Achiuwa on the other hand had the highest rebounds in the second quarter.
Jahil Okafor who went ahead to score eight points and five rebounds at halftime finished the game with 15 points and seven rebounds.
Nicolás Laprovíttola led the Argentines in scoring in the first half with eight points.
D’Tigers who kept their foot on the gas in the third quarter by taking a 19-point lead to finish the quarter 74-55, consolidated their effort in the final quarter to finish the game 94-71.
Unlike the game against the US, where they scored 60 points from the three-point line to defeat the United States on Sunday, D’Tigers scored more field goals against the Argentines.
With the brilliant performances from the team, head coach Mike Brown will not have it easy in the selection of his final 12-man roster which the submission is due for July 17 before the team depart for Tokyo.
Nigeria are in Group B with Australia, Italy, and Germany and will play their opening game against the Aussies on July 25 at the Saitama Super Arena.
