Gatekeepers News reports that Yahaya was appointed as army chief by President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, May 27, while the House of Representatives approved him on Tuesday, June 29, as the COAS.
Yahaya’s official portrait as the 22nd COAS was released officially on Monday, July 19.
The 22nd COAS was appointed to replace Ibrahim Attahiru, a lieutenant general, who died in an air crash alongside 10 other officers and men of the army, on May 21, while on an official trip to Kaduna State.
The president had sent the confirmation request to in House in compliance with section 18(1) of the Armed Forces Act Cap A20 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
He pledged the unalloyed commitment and loyalty of the military to the President Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
He assured all officers and men of exemplary and professional leadership that would serve as a rallying point for all.
