Chibok Girl Returns With Two Kids – Reunite With Family

One of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls has returned from the Boko Haram captivity with two children and reunited with her family on Saturday.

Gatekeepers News reports that one of the over 200 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram insurgents seven years ago at the Government Secondary School Chibok, Ruth Pogu has returned from the Boko Haram captivity and reunited with her family.

Pogu, alongside one of the Boko Haram terrorists who she married while in captivity, surrendered themselves and their two kids to the Nigerian military on July 28, 2021, at a location in Bama.

However, the Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, the security operatives, and government officials kept the development secret by using the last 10 days to reach her parents and the association of parents of the missing schoolgirls to ascertain her identity.

Governor Zulum announced her return on Saturday while he received and reunited her with overwhelmed parents at the Government House in Maiduguri.

Zulum noted that the state would undertake a rehabilitation and reintegration programme that would focus on Ruth’s health, psychosocial well-being, and her chosen path to a productive future, all of which will be determined by her.

The excited Governor, therefore, encouraged the families of others who are still in captivity that they would be safely found in good health.

He commiserated with the families and urged them to remain optimistic, prayerful, and cooperative with security agencies.

Governor Zulum said, “I am extremely excited both as Borno’s governor and father of all sons and daughters of the state and also as a father to daughters. I know the feeling of families of those still under captivity but we have to remain hopeful especially with today’s development.”

The Chairman of the Chibok Girls Movement, an association of all affected parents, Yakubu Keki, expressed joy over Ruth’s return.

Keki on behalf of the people of Chibok appreciated the efforts of security agencies.
