Factional Chairman and Candidate of Anambra state APGA has proceeded to Supreme Court over the party’s authentic candidate.
Gatekeepers News reports that the factional acting National Chairman of the All-Progressives Grand Alliance, Jude Okeke; and candidate of the party in the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election, Chukwuma Umeoji, have rejected the judgment of the Court of Appeal sitting in Kano declaring former CBN Governor as the authentic candidate of the party.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had accepted the filled Nomination Forms containing the name of Chukwuma Umeoji as the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the Anambra governorship election.
The acceptance of the nomination by the electoral umpire followed the Jigawa High Court judgment that nullified the candidature of former Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo and in accordance with Section 32 of the Electoral Act.
The Appeal Court judgement has set aside the judgment of a Jigawa State High Court, which had earlier declared them the authentic chairman and candidate of party, respectively.
A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of APGA, Ikechukwu Chukwunyere, said Okeke’s lawyers have been instructed to take all necessary steps to appeal the judgment to the Supreme Court.
Chukwunyere dismissed the appellate court’s judgment as “a mere temporary setback which will be set aside by the Supreme Court.”
The statement read in part, “The Hon. Chukwuma Umeoji Campaign will, therefore, continue unhindered pending the judgment of the Supreme Court where victory is assured. All supporters and party members are, therefore, urged to remain peaceful and law- abiding while maintaining the confidence level, as there is nothing that can stop an idea whose time has come.”
