Cross, a housemate at the ongoing Big Brother Naija housemate, has revealed that he attempted suicide twice some years ago.
Gatekeepers News reports that the housemates had been tasked with creating awareness about mental health and the diary sessions was an opportunity for them to share with Biggie how they felt about the subject.
The 31-year-old brought the revelation to light during his diary session with Biggie, the instructive voice behind the show, on Friday.
The reality TV star, whose real name is Ikechukwu Sunday, described the experience as the darkest moment of his life.
He also appreciated God that he was able to overcome the urge to take his life on the two occasions.
“There was a period in my life when I wanted to commit suicide. It was a very dark moment but this was years ago. It was quite dark, about two twice” he said.
“Well, I give God all the glory because, at the end of the day, I survived it.”
Cross enjoined those battling similar experiences to seek help rather than keeping it to themselves.
Citing his experience, the Lagos-based fitness coach and entrepreneur, also said there is a need to dissipate more efforts to address mental health issues in the country.
“I think we need physicians in this country to be serious about the issue. Our parents are not really doing enough regarding talking to children to diagnose their mental health,” he added.
In addition, housemates Maria and Whitemoney also shared their struggles with mental health. While Whitemoney revealed he experienced symptoms of schizophrenia the previous year, Maria opened up about her brother’s schizophrenia diagnosis and how it has greatly affected her family.
Jackie B also opened up about struggling with postpartum depression after welcoming her son at 18.
The housemates also spoke to Big Brother about how much they have won from their tasks so far and Yousef appears to be leading with N1.8 million. Other millionaire housemates include Michael and Liquorose.
