United States President, Joe Biden on Tuesday said Washington is on a pace to finish evacuations from Afghanistan by August 31.

Gatekeepers News reports that Biden, however, noted that the possibility of extending the deadline depends on cooperation from Afghanistan’s new Taliban rulers.

“The sooner we can finish, the better,” Biden said at the White House on Tuesday. “Each day of operations brings added risk to our troops.”

American forces have so far evacuated 70,700 people since August 14, according to the U.S President.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Taliban on Tuesday said all foreign evacuations from the country must be completed by August 31.

Taliban spokesman also urged Washington to stop taking “Afghan experts” such as engineers and doctors out of the country.

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has said the Group of Seven nations (G7) will not recognise a Taliban government unless it assures that people can leave Afghanistan willingly before and after the August deadline.
