Gatekeepers News reports that Walmart on Tuesday said it would dispatch its contract workers, autonomous vehicles and other means to transport rival retailers’ products directly to their customers’ homes.
The American multinational retailer based in Bentonville, Arkansas, has a Spark delivery network, which it launched in 2018 and increased its coverage to more than 500 cities nationwide.
Walmart is targeting local communities, most especially, businesses in rural areas that have struggled to provide their own delivery services.
With the new strategy, Walmart will be competing with the likes of Uber and DoorDash which also offers delivery services.
Walmart, last month, started offering small- to medium-size businesses the e-commerce technology it developed to let shoppers buy products online and pick them up at stores. It’s part of a partnership with technology provider Adobe.
Gatekeepers News reports that the delivery service which is expected to kick off in the next few months is tagged Walmart GoLocal.
Already, Walmart has sealed a number of deals with national and small-business clients, although it did reveal their names.
