Ed Asner of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” is dead.
Gatekeepers News reports that, Ed Asner, who rose to fame as the crusty but lovable newsman Lou Grant on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” died Sunday morning, his publicist confirmed to CNN.
Asner was was surrounded by family in Los Angeles, publicist Charles Sherman said.
The news was also shared in a post on Asner’s official Twitter account.
“We are sorry to say that our beloved patriarch passed away this morning peacefully,” the post read.
“Words cannot express the sadness we feel. With a kiss on your head- Goodnight dad. We love you.”
Eddie Asner was an American actor and a president of the Screen Actors Guild.
He is known for playing Lou Grant during the 1970s and early 1980s, on both The Mary Tyler Moore Show and its spin-off series Lou Grant, making him one of the few television actors to portray the same character in both a comedy and a drama. Ed-Asner died at the age of 91.
