Lies And Untruths: Jackson Ude’s Dangerous Concoctions About Godswill Akpabio By Johnson Ojo

Jackson Ude knows his onions – in building non-existent stories and giving false reports to “his army of fake news consumers”, according to Ifeoma Okolie of the Niger Delta Good Governance Group.

Okolie said Ude has a history of many untruths and an affinity for seeing the names of public figures soiled, even with no proof to back his claims. She said Ude’s journalism has been about spreading falsehood and not necessarily about making better societies.

She said Ude’s most recent lie was blatant and hot because ‘it came from the pit of hell’.

Okolie frowned at a story published by Mr Ude against Nigeria’s Minister of Niger Delta Affairs Senator Godswill Akpabio. He wrote that the former Akwa Ibom State governor squandered an imaginary N215 billion, believed to be owned by the Niger Delta Development Commission.

Ude, according to Okolie, went on to report that the Minister rented a certain room 409 in Transcorp Hilton hotel for a weekend rendezvous with a lady named Blessing Ossom. The report further stated, albeit falsely, that Senator Akpabio gave Ossom $50,000 to criticise Akwa Ibom State Governor Emmanuel Udom on social media in partnership with one Zion Umoh.

Although the lady alleged to have been given money and seen with Akpabio, Ossom has denied the allegation levelled against her by Ude; she’s also pressing for charges against Ude for criminal defamation of her character

To further floor Ude’s assertions, which she described as dangerous and falsified, Okolie said that official records have shown that Akpabio was not in the country at the time stated in the report, as several eyewitnesses even saw him board a Lufthansa Airline flight on the 2nd of September. This was on the same day he submitted the NDDC’s Forensic Audit report, President Muhammadu Buhari, through the office of the Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami.

Ude had been adjudged by a court of competent jurisdiction of blackmailing Okonjo-Iweala, the former Minister of Finance and current Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, with false and fraudulent allegations.

At the behest of his false publications against Okonjo-Iweala, he fled Nigeria for the United States in a bid to avoid prosecution for his libellous offences. Okolie said Ude’s story reeks of falsehood and is poorly thought through.

Okolie said an example of Ude’s many dangerous lies was exposed in a June 22nd 2020, report by the Vanguard Newspapers where it published a ruling by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja. The court, according to the report, granted an interim order against a US-based news medium, Pointblank News, owned by Mr Ude, against publishing any malicious and defamatory material about a businessman, Abubakar Isa.

Okolie said to prevent Ude from further damaging other people’s reputation with his concocted lies, there are plans in motion to seek his extradition from the United States to get him to face the law.
