Biden To Speak In Person At UN General Assembly

United States President, Joe Biden is billed to speak in person at the United Nations General Assembly in New York next Tuesday, September 21.

Gatekeepers News reports that Biden will join other world leaders who plan to attend the annual event amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The speech will be Biden’s first address at the annual diplomatic gathering of his presidency. Last year’s 193-member gathering was held virtually due to COVID-19.

The U.N has reeled out requirements for this year’s attendance which include mandatory wearing of face masks and access restrictions. Leaders were also given the option to deliver messages virtually.

The gathering is taking place amidst a surge in the Delta variant even though most attendees are likely to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

According to reports, more than 100 leaders are expected to attend the global gathering in person in New York.

Over the weekend, Surgeon General Vivek Murthy said the American President would announce new steps on global vaccinations ahead of the annual gathering, indicating that his speech is likely to focus in part on curbing the virus.

“There will be more actions that we continue to work on in the days ahead, and especially on the global front, where we will be taking steps, and the president will be making announcements ahead of the UN General Assembly about additional measures that we’re taking to help vaccinate the world,” Murthy told CNN.

At the event, Biden who has tried to draw a sharp contrast with his predecessor, former President Trump especially when engaging with other world leaders, is also expected to stress on the message he has been conveying since the start of his presidency: “America is back” on the world stage.

Gatekeepers News reports that the American President on Monday announced the U.S. representatives for the 76th U.N. assembly. They are; Tom Carnahan, Sim Farar, and Reps. French Hill (R-Ark.) and Barbara Lee (D-Calif.).
