President Biden Urges Unity As World Faces Decisive Decade
United States President, Joe Biden during his first address to the 76th United Nations in New York on Tuesday, pushed for global unity as the world faces a decisive decade.

Gatekeepers News reports that the calls for unity came on the heels of tensions with allies over the US’ Afghanistan withdrawal and a major diplomatic row with France over a submarine deal.

“We must work together like never before,” Biden said as he affirmed his support for democracy and diplomacy.

He added that: “Whether we choose to fight for our shared future or not will reverberate for generations to come. Simply put, we stand, in my view, at an inflection point in history.”

The American President stressed that the U.S is “not seeking a new Cold War or a world divided into rigid blocs”.

The US, he said, “is ready to work with any nation that steps up and pursues peaceful resolution to shared challenges, even if we have intense disagreements in other areas”.

Biden also noted that the U.S is “not seeking a new Cold War or a world divided into rigid blocs”.

He said the U.S “is ready to work with any nation that steps up and pursues peaceful resolution to shared challenges, even if we have intense disagreements in other areas.”

Biden was responding to the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’s warning at the weekend that the US and China were headed for “a Cold War that would be different from the past one, and probably more dangerous and more difficult to manage”.

On the U.S pullout from Afghanistan which has been criticised by allies at home and abroad, Biden defended the country’s decision, saying it ended a “period of relentless war” for a “new era of relentless diplomacy”.

Also, at the UNGA meeting which focuses on a climate crisis and a once-in-a-century pandemic that have sharpened global divides, Biden announced the U.S resolve to double its climate funding for developing countries to $11.4bn (£8.3bn) by 2024.
