NILOWV will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary in Abuja, FCT.
Gatekeepers News reports that the League of Women Voters Of Nigeria (NILOWV) NILOWV will celebrate its 25th Anniversary in Abuja.
NILOWV was founded in 1996 after the Beijing Conference of 1995 by Rt. Hon. Dame Esther Uduehi, PhD.
The league was modelled after the League of Women Voters of America.
NILOWV is a voluntary, non-sectarian, non-partisan, non-profit, non-governmental association of only women 18 years and above.
NILOWV is a unique organisation with members from all works of life, including professionals, civil servants, teachers, market women, public officers, entrepreneurs, politicians, women rights groups etc. etc.
NILOWV seeks to promote women and their goals, supporting women in elective positions to take up prominent roles in society as well as to mobilise women generally, especially at the grassroots level, to support women’s rights groups and to empower women economically and politically for a perfect democracy.
NILOWV has chapters in all 36 states and the FCT.
NILOWV welcomes women with integrity and passion for uplifting other women with a provision for, articulating, advocating, and influencing policies and resolutions that positively affect the lives of all women.
NILOWV achieves these objectives through Advocacy and workshops for women and girls.
NILOWV has taken significant strides in the drive to achieve its goals and objectives in the upliftment of women through the existing partnership with NDE, which has led to the training of young women under a New Scheme titled Women Empowerment/Collaboration Schemes (WECS) that is currently being piloted in several states in the country.
NILOWV, In Partnership with ActionAid and Global Support Canada, has carried out projects in many states across Nigeria under the programme; Women Leadership Voices (WLV).
During COVID 19 Pandemic, NILOWV mobilised support in many states for women, especially the vulnerable and needy, with palliatives, which included foodstuff, clothing, masks and sanitisers, as well as sensitisation programmes on the COVID 19 protocols with radio jingles in local languages across the country.
Since the establishment of NILOWV by Dr Dame Esther Uduehi, the membership has been swelled by notable women who have joined in the mission of empowering other women.
In November this year, NILOWV will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary in Abuja, with notable speakers from across the world.
The main aims of NILOWV are to:
• support women to take a more significant role in public affairs and awaken the awareness of their various rights and duties in society,
• mobilise individuals and organisations who are committed to the development of women and advocate for their rights, equity and fair treatment.
• sustain the growth and progress of girls and women by working in tangent with policymakers to ensure that they make and implement favourable laws and policies for women.
