Report Of Gunmen Attack In Imo Is Fake News – Police

Police in Imo State, Southern Nigeria has debunked the reports of gunmen attack in the state.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Imo State Police Command has discarded the report of gunmen attacks in some parts of the state and tagged it as ‘fake news’.

On Monday, residents of Owerri, the state capital, and other parts of the state scampered for safety after fear gripped them following the circulation of reports that some gunmen were enforcing a sit-at-home order.

The State Police Command while advising the indigenes to disregard the report, advised them to be “mindful of mischief makers who raise a false alarm that is unfounded.”

The Command’s spokesman, Michael Abattam in a statement said the situation could give room for hoodlums to vandalise properties and even endanger human lives.

Abattam said the development is a ploy by detractors of the state to cause pandemonium and destabilise the area.

He added that the Commissioner of Police has issued a strong warning to any person or group whose intention is to scuttle the peace being enjoyed by residents of the state.

Abattam equally warned that anyone caught will face the full wrath of the law and also urged the residents to go about their lawful businesses without fear of harassment or molestation from anybody.
