Bello’s ambition to become the first Nigerian President from the North Central has been greeted with cheers from the region and he has in recent time met with some of the most important and influential Nigerians. His candidacy was endorsed by former Super Eagles players including immediate former captain Mikel Obi, and ex-internationals like Jayjay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Austin Eguavoen, Samson Siasia and a host of others.
Governor Bello was also endorsed by youths in the South West and Niger Delta recently and is fast gaining grounds amongst civil society organisations who are enthralled by his aspiration.
Recall that Governor Bello was described as a ‘wind of welcome’ by the University of Jos alumni, shortly after Nigerians in the diaspora announced their support for him. His candidacy has been refreshing to many who see him as a deviation from the norm and a viable choice for the Presidency.
Just a few weeks ago, Governor Bello was endorsed by traditional rulers in Kwara State and his ideas have been hailed by various sections of Nigerians.
Reports of Governor Bello’s change in ambition is seen as the handiwork of some of his detractors who feel already threatened by his rising stock amongst the Nigerian populace. The governor has maintained that his resolve to become President is intact as he believes he offers Nigerians an interesting and exciting option.
