Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano says President Muhammadu Buhari is not in support of a declaration of emergency rule in the state.

Gatekeepers News reports that the governor said this on Thursday, after meeting with the president at the villa in Abuja.

He said Buhari assured him that he was only interested in a free and fair election on November 6 in the state.

Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF), had said the federal government might consider declaring a state of emergency in Anambra to ensure a hitch-free governorship election.

In reaction, Obiano faulted Malami’s statement, saying there are states facing insecurity, yet emergency rule has not been declared there.

The governor described the attorney-general’s statement as “unfortunate”, adding that he should have suggested the imposition of emergency rule in northern states experiencing more killings.

The governor said he would call the attorney-general to express his feelings over the suggestion, adding that apart from the recent security crisis, Anambra remains the most peaceful state in the south-east.
