Ologbotsere family has rejected the cancellation of the Ologbotsere title by the Olu Warri.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Ologbotsere family has rejected in strong terms the Olu of Warri’s cancellation of the title of Ologbotsere.
On Tuesday, October 5, the Olu of Warri, Oba Tsola Emiko, Ogiame Atuwashe III, stripped Chief Ayiri of his Ologbotsere (Prime Minister) title.
The Olu further invited the Ologbotsere family to the Palace and instructed the members “never to address Ayiri as Ologbotsere anymore.”
According to reports, the monarch, in order not to create a vacuum, empowered the Olori-Ebi of the Ologbotsere family, Pa. Higson Ajofotan Oporokun, to superintend the overall activities of members henceforth.
Following this development, many Ologbotsere descendants met on Thursday to “reject the Olu’s cancellation of the Ologbosere title.”
Some of those present at the meeting were William Anukun (Sec General), Sam Omamuli, J Nana, Wilson Mene, Esimaje Omaghomi, and Oritsemaye Wanikone.
It was resolved that “such a thing has never happened in the history of Itsekiri land and will never happen that an Ologbotsere will be de-robbed. Owing to Chief Ayiri’s statutory position, he cannot be removed as Ologbotsere. We have set up a committee to follow up on the issue, which we hope in no distant time will be resolved. Our secretary William Anukun has been appointed as the chairman of the committee”, said a highly placed member of the Ologbotsere family.
Recall Chief Ayiri Emami has been in court seeking the court’s order of an interlocutory injunction to “restrain the defendants either by themselves, agents, privies and whomsoever from crowning any person as the Olu of Warri Kingdom, pending the hearing and determination of the suit.
Chief Emami is also seeking “an order restraining the defendants either by themselves, agents, privies and (or) by whomsoever from using anybody, particularly the third defendant (Iyatsere) or the Uwangue or any other traditional chief of Warri Kingdom to crown any person as the Olu of the Warri Kingdom against the provision of the Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Edict of 1979, pending the hearing and determination of this suit”, and also seeking the court to “upturn the purported suspension of Ologbotsere as the Chairman, Olu Advisory Council and Traditional Council of Chiefs by the Ginuwa I Ruling House.”
