SWAN Reacts To Iheanacho’s Assault On Reporter

Sports Writers Association Nigeria (SWAN) has frowned at the alleged embarrassing act of Super Eagles striker, Kelechi Iheanacho.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Association expressed its displeasure through a statememt signed by Debo Oshundun, Chairman of Lagos SWAN, and Bumi Ogunyale, Secretary of Lagos SWAN.

Iheanacho physically attacked a reporter, who requested an interview after the Super Eagles training in Lagos ahead of a World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic.

The Leicester City striker was said to have pushed and shoved Yinka Oyedele, a Brila FM reporter.

In reaction to the occurrence, SWAN described the action as ‘disrespectful’,  adding that Oyedele doesn’t deserve such ill-treatment from Iheanacho or any national team player.

The Association, therefore, called on Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to call the striker to order, stating that the correction would prevent future experience.

The read in part: “We urge the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to as a matter of  urgency call the player to order, it is also not out place for the football house further educate the players on etIquette and relationship with the men of the fourth estate of realm and fans alike.

“Such measures if put in place would prevent future occurrence.

“The Super Eagles take a prime place in every Nigerian journalists’ hearts and treatment such as this can only discourage reporters from doing more and giving their best for the course of our darling national team.”
