Gatekeepers News reports that the victims include a UPS driver who died after the ill-fated plane crashed into his UPS truck.
Fire Chief John Garlow explained that the crash occurred shortly after noon in Santee, about 20 miles northeast of downtown San Diego.
Garlow said the plane, a twin-engine Cessna 340, struck several homes and multiple vehicles, including a UPS truck that was “heavily damaged.” Three houses had “major damage”, and two were burned entirely, he said.
UPS has also confirmed that an employee died in the crash.
“We are heartbroken by the loss of our employee and extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends,” UPS said in a statement.
“We also send our condolences to the other individuals who are involved in this incident and their families and friends.”
Deputy Fire Chief Justin Matsushita told reporters that two people were taken to the hospital with burn injuries, noting that more victims were possible. “it’s a pretty brutal scene,” he added.
