UNICEF has selected a 26-year-old Kwaran, Taibat Hussein as generation Youth board member.
Gatekeepers News reports that a developmental economist, Taibat Hussain, has been nominated into the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Youth Sounding Board as a member from Nigeria.
Taibat was nominated among hundreds of applicants to join the Generation Unlimited Young People Action Team.
Generation Unlimited (GenU) is the world’s leading Public-Private-Youth Partnership transforming crises into opportunities for young people.
Currently, young people represent 1.8 billion of the world’s population – the largest in the history of humankind.
GenU is leveraging this demographic boom around the globe to expand education, training and employment opportunities for young people.
Taibat is a Masters graduate in Development Economics from SOAS University of London. She has over four years of progressive, transnational experience working in the not-for-profit and development sectors.
Taibat is an energetic and goal-driven young leader who has championed causes in women’s advancement, education, youth employment, and grassroots development. Recently, she worked as a Gender and Economic Development consultant on the ‘Partnership for Advancing Women in Economic Development’ project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
She is a vibrant volunteer and researcher who has written extensively on issues affecting young people. She is a fellow of Emerging International Leaders, UK, a recipient of Talents of the Future Award 2018, and a 2019 Commonwealth Shared Scholar.
She will be joining the GenU team to actualize some of these goals globally.
Taibat while expressing her delight at the nomination to the Gatekeepers News said she is looking forward “to forging innovative collaborations with young people and advancing GenU’s impact areas, including learning and skilling, entrepreneurship and employment, and youth as changemakers.
“Young people are facing unique challenges worldwide.
“It has become imperative for us to be directly involved in providing relevant solutions to these challenges.
“We must develop our innovative solutions and anchor conversations around pertinent issues to our growth.
“I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to play a vital role in shaping the future of young people by equipping them with the right skills and resources to transform their lives.
