Gunmen have attacked and freed inmates at Oyo correctional facility.
Gatekeepers News reports that the gunmen attacked the correctional facility in Abolongo, Oyo town, on Friday night and freed several inmates.
According to a source, the gunmen arrived at the centre around 10 pm, using hand grenades to access the prison. The source added that the warders were caught unaware and were unable to stop the attackers.
The Public Relations Officer of the correctional centre, Lanre Anjorin, has confirmed the attack.
Anjorin said the authorities were still assessing the situation to ascertain the number of prisoners that escaped and damage done to the building.
The spokesman said, “The report is true. The correctional centre in Abolongo, Oyo town, was attacked. Right now, the controller is there with other senior officers. They are assessing the situation, looking at the damage done to the facility. A detailed report will be made known later.”
