FAAN Apprehends Arik Staff For Bribery

Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has apprehended Arik staff for bribery.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has apprehended a staff of Arik airline who was caught soliciting for bribe from a passenger.

General Manager, Corporate Affairs of FAAN,  Henrietta Yakubu who confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday said the staff was arrested at the General Aviation Terminal in Lagos.

Yakubu noted that the on-duty card of the erring staff was withdrawn immediately, and she was also handed over to the relevant security agency for appropriate action in order to serve as a deterrent to other bad eggs in the airport.

She explained that recent embarrassing online videos where passengers complained of acts of extortion at the nation’s airport had necessitated the need to devise multi-level strategies to curb the menace.

Yakubu stated that an emergency FAAN management meeting was held in this respect and steps to tackle this act were discussed at the meeting.

According to her, the Managing Director, FAAN, Rabiu Yadudu, Directors of the Authority, Special Adviser to the President on Ease of Doing Business, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, Airport Managers and Airport Chiefs of Security were in attendance.

Yakubu said the meeting resolved that henceforth, any erring airport official caught soliciting for bribes at the nation’s airports would be permanently denied access to working at the airports.

She wrote, “Officials were also directed to always wear conspicuous name tags anytime they are on duty.’’

Yakubu said the MD of FAAN Yadudu while warning that there will be no sacred cows, directed the airport managers to ensure that all stakeholders at the airports are properly sensitised on the new development.
