Twin Explosions Rock Uganda’s Capital

Twin explosions rocked Uganda’s capital, Kampala, early on Tuesday.

Gatekeepers News reports that the blasts happened in the central business district, one near the Central Police Station and a second one near the entrance to Parliament.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Health, Emmanuel Ainebyoona disclosed via a Twitter post that no fewer than 24 people have been hospitalised with injuries sustained in the blasts. He added that four of them are critically injured.

“Following the unfortunate and cowardly act of terrorism, our health workers are working around the clock to save lives of those injured. @MulagoHospital is currently attending to about 24 causalities. Reports indicate four are in critical conditions,” he tweeted.

Gatekeepers News reports that there was no immediate comment on casualties and no group has claimed responsibility for the blasts.

“What we can say (is) this was an attack but who is responsible is a matter that is under investigation,” said Uganda’s Assistant Inspector General of police, Edward Ochom.

Uganda Red Cross spokeswoman Irene Nakasiita has dispatched a team to the area and security officers have also deployed sniffer dogs to search for evidence around the sites of the explosions.
