Health experts in Germany have raised an alarm over the raising COVID-19 infection rates as the country faces the fourth wave of the pandemic.
Gatekeepers News reports that experts believe the infection rates are likely to increase further over the winter, basically because of the increase in indoor gatherings as Christmas approaches.
Some states have started announcing new restrictions for unvaccinated people in a bid to curb the spread of the pandemic as infection numbers are hitting new records every day.
German chancellor, Angela Merkel while speaking to the association of German city leaders on Wednesday, admitted that the virus is hitting the country with “full force”.
“The fourth wave is hitting our country with full force,” she said, adding that the situation is “dramatic.”
She urged those who are yet to be vaccinated to get the jab, saying “it is not too late to opt for a first vaccine shot.”
Gatekeepers News reports that Germany has confirmed over 5.21m cases and 98,544 deaths.
The German parliament and the leaders of Germany’s states are expected to meet today, Thursday with Merkel to decide on the ways to curb the COVID-19 pandemic.
