EFCC Arrests Femi Fani-Kayode For Fraud

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode.

Gatekeepers News reports that EFCC Spokesman Wilson Uwujaren has confirmed the arrest of Femi Fani-Kayode.

Uwujaren, while confirming this development to TheCable, said “True” in a terse text message on Tuesday.

According to reports, the former Minister was arrested and taken to the Lagos zonal command of the anti-graft over allegations of fraud — including forgery.

In 2016, EFCC arraigned Fani-Kayode, a member of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s Presidential Campaign Team, alongside Nenadi Usman, a former Minister of State for Finance, on a 17-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering and diversion of N4.9 billion.

Others defendants on the lists are Danjuma Yusuf and a company, Joint Trust Dimensions Limited.

During the last sitting in October, Federal High Court in Lagos awarded a fine of N200,000 against Fani-Kayode for his absence to take his plea in court in the alleged N4.6 billion fraud.

The matter was, however, adjourned till November 30, 2021, for the re-arraignment of the defendants.

His arrest comes weeks after he defected from the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the ruling party – the All Progressives Congress (APC).
