Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has denied involvement as truck crushes more than 10 students in Lagos State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said that its officers were not involved in the cause of the crash along Ogunusi Road, Grammar School Bus Stop, Lagos State, South West Nigeria.
A hit-and-run trailer had crushed some pupils on Tuesday at the bus stop just as they closed from school around 2pm.
The Lagos State Police Command has since arrested the unnamed driver.
The incident grounded vehicular movement as motorists deserted the road and stranded commuters trekked long distances.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Yinka Odumosu while addressing journalists said that investigation had commenced into the incident.
FRSC, In a statement by the Sector Commander in the state, Olusegun Ogungbemide, said the articulated truck lost control, resulting in the death of “unverified number of students and leaving many injured.”
He added that the men of FRSC were called upon by passersby to help intervene after the crash had happened.
The statement read in part, “About seven (7) of the victims were rescued and immediately taken to Lagos State Emergency Centre Ojota by FRSC personnel while another road user helped in carrying about seven (7) also to the same emergency centre.
“The general public should disregard the disgruntled information been circulated by some unscrupulous element that FRSC men caused the crash.
“We want to place on record that our men were not in any way involved in the cause of the crash as patrol activities was not ongoing along that axis as at the time of the crash.”
