Sylvester Oromoni’s Death: Police Arrest 3 Dowen College Students

Three students of Dowen College, suspected to have been involved in the alleged torture and beating of Sylvester Oromoni, have been arrested. 

Gatekeepers News reports that police arrested three students of Dowen College who allegedly tortured and beat late Sylvester Oromoni, over his refusal to join a cult group.

The arrested students were taken to the State Criminal Investigative Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba in Lagos state for questioning.

12-year-old Sylvester died of complications last week as a result of injuries sustained from an attack by a group of five senior students for allegedly refusing to join a cult group in the school.

Lagos State commissioner of police Hakeem Odumosu on Tuesday morning, affirmed the arrest of the 3 students, during an interview on Channels TV.

Odumosi said three of the five students mentioned by Sylvester before he died are already in custody and cooperating with the police in their findings.

Although Odumosu did not give the identities of those in custody he insisted that they are key suspects.

The police boss explained that the Command is set to go for the post mortem of the body in Delta state to ascertain the cause of death.

He assured that police authorities in both Lagos and Delta State are keenly interested in the outcome of the investigation to unravel the mystery behind Sylvester’s death.

The students, who were interrogated at the SCID, were accompanied to the police station by their parents and lawyers.

Meanwhile, the Oromoni family has hired the firm of a foremost human rights lawyer and activist, Femi Falana, to prosecute its case against the institution over the death of their son.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), South-West Zone, has also set up a fact-finding committee to look into the matter just as it vowed to take up the case and ensure that justice prevails.
