Amazon is back online after eight hours of the site’s crash.
Gatekeepers News reports that Amazon has finally begun to come back online after the company’s server experienced a global crash that lasted over eight hours.
Gatekeepers News earlier reported that online applications including Amazon, Amazon Music, Alexa, Prime Video, Ring, and Amazon Web Services all started experiencing problems at 3.40 pm (10:40 am ET).
Three delivery service partners had also raised the alarm that said the Amazon app used to communicate with delivery drivers is down, leaving vans that were supposed to deliver packages sitting idle with no communication from the company.
The outage comes during the company’s critical Christmas shopping season, living online shoppers frustrated and could potentially create lasting log-jams at a time where there is already a critical crunch on the supply chain.
Amazon officials earlier noted that they have identified the ‘root cause’ of the problem and were working to fix it.
The American Multinational Technology Company said the outage was likely due to issues related to Application Programming Interface (API), which is a set of protocols for building and integrating application software.
Amazon in a report on its service health dashboard said: “We are experiencing API and console issues in the US-EAST-1 Region.”
Although the company reported that it was “starting to see some signs of recovery” in a later update, it could not say when the service will be fully restored.
Amazon stated that “We do not have an ETA for full recovery at this time.”
However, the Amazon Web Services outage is far worse than the others because it provides cloud computing services to governments, individuals, universities, and companies around the world.
Meanwhile, the outage has impacted a wide variety of service providers worldwide, including CashApp, iRobot, Chime, GoDaddy, CapitalOne, Instacart Kindle, the Associated Press, and Roku. Although some users reported issues with Disney+, the app appeared to be back online just before 1 pm ET in New York.
