British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has imposed tougher COVID-19 restrictions in England in a bid to curb the spread of the Omicron COVID-19 variant.
Gatekeepers News reports that Johnson on Wednesday said Omicron was spreading quickly and he is left with no other choice than to move to “Plan B” to buy time and get more booster shots into arms.
He ordered people to work from home, wear masks in public places. Also, COVID-19 vaccine passes will be made mandatory for nightclubs and large events.
“We will reintroduce the guidance to work from home,” he said. “Employers should use the rest of the week to discuss working arrangements with their employees but from Monday you should work from home if you can.
“Go to work if you must but work from home if you can.”
The new measures could stop people from going to cinemas, restaurants, cafes and shops in city centres in the run-up to Christmas and deal a fresh blow to Britain’s finances.
“While the picture may get better, and I sincerely hope that it will, we know that the remorseless logic of exponential growth could lead to a big rise in hospitalizations and therefore, sadly, in deaths,” Johnson told a news conference.
Gatekeepers News reports that Britain has so far discovered 568 cases of Omicron.
