Gatekeepers News reports that Kanda, who voiced Princess Anna in the Japanese version of 2013 Disney mega-hit Frozen, was found dead on the 14th floor of the 22-storey hotel that she had lodged in on December 18.
She was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead by doctors, according to local media outlets.
Kanda’s agency has confirmed her demise in a statement that read: “We are very sorry to give such a report to all the fans who supported us and all the people who took care of us.
“We are still unable to accept her passing and are trying to cope with it.”
Kanda, who was the daughter of actor Masaki Kanda, had been due to appear in a performance of the musical My Fair Lady at a theatre in Hokkaido on Saturday, but never showed up.
Local media have reported that the actress did, however, appear at a rehearsal for the show on Friday.
