C’River Youths Vow To Shutdown PDP Secretariat

Cross River youths have vowed to shutdown PDP secretariat for disregarding zoning of governorship to the South.

Gatekeepers News reports that Youths in Cross River State on Monday vowed to occupy the office of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for disregarding the call for the zoning of the governorship seat to the Southern Senatorial District.

The youths under the umbrella of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Cross River chapter, made the vow at a press conference in the state capital, Calabar.

NYCN’s Chairman, Dan Obo said the Council has unanimously resolved to ensure equity, fairness, and justice by insisting that the next governor of Cross River comes from the South.

Obo, while addressing the press said, “between now and January, we expect that the same way the PDP called a meeting in 2015 to say look it is the turn of the North, they should call that same meeting. They call it caucus meeting. If they don’t call it between now and January we may have no choice than to occupy their office. PDP is trying to stir hatred among young people by opening its window for someone who is not from the Southern Senatorial District. This will not happen. We won’t accept it. For that not to happen we need to occupy that office.

He spoke further, “We are demanding for equity. We are demanding for justice. We are also demanding for peace. We are not comfortable because someone that is not from the Southern Senatorial District is agitating for governorship. The leadership of the APC is in tandem with our position as young people. We are going to mobilize ourselves as young people because we cut across the 196 council wards of Cross River. A governor that is not from South will not emerge in this generation. This is because we want to sustain whatever peace we are enjoying. We don’t have any business with an individual because we don’t have independent candidate. The party cannot be bigger than us.

“It’s obvious to the blind that the PDP has opened its door for crisis so they will have to content with us. There’s *sic* no two ways about it. Are you telling me in the whole of this Southern Senatorial District it is only somebody from the Central that finds somebody in the South fit for deputy governor? The PDP have *sic* the Youth Council to content with. The day we will go there we will not do it secretly. If that decision is not reversed, between February 1 and 5 we will occupy their office.”
