7 Killed In Christmas Day Accident On Sagamu-Benin Expressway

Seven persons have been confirmed dead in a Christmas Day accident on the Sagamu-Benin expressway.

Gatekeepers News reports that a Mercedes Benz luxury bus at Ososa Bridge crashed along the Sagamu-Benin Expressway at about 12:20 am on Saturday.

Ahmed Umar, Sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, has confirmed the accident, saying it was caused by excessive speeding, wrongful overtaking and loss of control by the driver.

He added that seven others sustained various degrees of injuries from the accident.

The sector commander said that the unregistered vehicle heading to the eastern part of the country took off from Ojuelegba, Lagos.

He revealed that 63 persons including 40 male adults, 15 female adults and eight children, were on the bus and that 49 of them, including all the children, escaped unhurt.

Umar added that the injured victims were rendered first aid treatment while the deceased were deposited at State Hospital Mortuary, Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State.

The sector commander then pleaded with motorists to curb dangerous driving, especially during this period of high vehicular movement and night travels when visibility is poor.

He advised motorists to drive defensively, maintain safe speed avoid night travels and obey traffic rules and regulations.

Umar commiserated with the victims’ families and enjoined them to contact the FRSC Ijebu-Ode unit for more information about the crash.
