President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Pinnick Amaju, says Jose Peseiro will stay in Abuja, Nigeria during the course of his handling of the Super Eagles.
Gatekeepers News reports that Amaju said the newly appointed coach of the Super Eagles will not be leaving for the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon (AFCON) in Cameroon.
He said this on Monday, during an interview on Arise TV, adding that the newly appointed coach will stay back in Abuja to monitor the football team perform in Cameroon.
NFF had announced the appointment of the Portuguese to take over the Super Eagles job immediately after the upcoming AFCON.
As reported, Peseiro was announced to have arrived Abuja on Sunday, January 2.
The 61-year-old coach until recently coached Venezuela, but experts have questioned his achievements and suitability to replace sacked Gernot Rohr.
The NFF arising from its virtual executive board meeting disclosed in a communiqué that it took the decision to appoint Peseiro after a careful consideration of a memo submitted by its Technical and Development Committee.
However, the committee resolved that Augustine Eguavoen will be in charge of the team during the AFCON tournament
