Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu have fallen out of the Australian Open.
Gatekeepers News reports that the United Kingdom has suffered a huge blow at the Australian Open as two of their tennis star, Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu have crashed out of the tournament on Thursday.
Andy Murray who was subdued by Japanese Taro Daniel admitted the hurt from disappointing defeats “does not get any easier.”
Britain’s Murray was defeated 6-4 6-4 6-4 by qualifier Daniel in the second round of the tournament on John Cain Arena.
His British counterpart, Raducanu of the women’s category also experienced her first complete match defeat at a Grand Slam.
98th ranked Danka Kovinic took advantage of the pain of blisters on Raducanu’s hand to send the 19-year-old out of the Australian Open in the second round.
Although the 6-4 4-6 6-3 complete match defeat at ongoing Australian Open is her first, it can be related to when she pulled out with breathing difficulties against Ajla Tomljanovic in the fourth round of Wimbledon.
That experience sure proved valuable as the US Open champion was able to show her competitive qualities and giving herself a chance when it appeared a lost cause.
On Tuesday, Eurosport announced that Raducanu’s first-round win over Sloane Stephens generated the channel’s biggest audience in the UK for five years, the victory was clearly a big relief for the teenager after a tricky few months trying to adjust to her new status.
However, today’s defeat has becoming a disappointing one for Raducanu who was one of the big favourites at the ongoing grand slam.
