JUST IN: Fire Guts Federal Ministry Of Finance Building

The building housing the Federal Ministry of Finance has been gutted by fire.

Gatekeepers News reports that the building located in the Central Area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, caught fire in the early hours of Wednesday.

The Federal Fire Service and other concerned agencies are currently on ground trying to salvage the situation.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Finance, Olajide Oshundun said that the fire started early morning around 6:50 am.

He added that some staff of the Ministry noticed smoke emanating from the room that houses the battery for an inverter.

Oshundun said the fire was put out with fire fighting equipment at the Ministry within twenty minutes and that the effect of the fire incident is minor as it only affected the basement of the Ministry.

The Special Adviser, Media & Communications To the Hon Minister, Finance, Budget and National Planning, Yunusa Tanko Abdullahi in a statement said, “The Federal Ministry of Finance Headquarters is not on fire as reported on the social media. Rather there was an incident on the corridor in the basement involving an isolated battery Pack (Photo inset) and it was quickly put out by the security personnel on duty.”
