An honest Nigerian police officer identified as sergeant Sampson Ekikere who returned a lost wallet containing cash, Debit card and other valuables has refused to accept tip as reward.
Gatekeepers News reports that the police officers made all possible efforts including approaching the bank to reach the owner Lukman Abaja.
The duo had boarded the same bus from Ikeja, Lagos State and the wallet fell from Abaja’s pocket when he alighted at Leventis Bus Stop.
“We joined the same Danfo from Ikeja, then he came down at Leventis. I saw his driving license and phone number was on it and tried my best to reach out to the number but it was not reachable.
“I can’t recall, but it was on Friday that I went to his bank and the bank customer care put a call to him, then he came to my place of work and collect it yesterday.
“He begged me to collect the money he gave me and I told him that I did not return his wallet just to get money from him.”
The owner of the wallet, Abaja also confirmed that the police officer rejected his offer to reward him.
“Yes, I offered him a token to compensate for his act of kindness but he rejected. He state outrightly that he did it for God and that he didn’t want the money. I insisted that am only rewarding the kind gesture but he said no.
“So at this point, my friends tried to persuade him but he thanked them calmly and said he is serving the nation.”
