Borno State Police Command has on Friday dissociated itself from any planned industrial action and assured that the Police will continue to remain focused on discharging its constitutional responsibilities.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Police Command also stated that the welfare of the Police under the leadership of the current Inspector General of Police, (IGP) Alkali Baba Usman has improved greatly.
Commissioner of Police (CP) in Borno State Abdu Umar made the disclosure in Maiduguri, the state capital during a meeting with Senior Officers of the Borno Police Command.
The Police Commissioner also use the opportunity to clear the air on a viral video where Policemen in Borno State were protesting stating that “the video was the protest by Mobile policemen since 2nd July 2018.”
Umar said the rumour that some policemen were planning to stage a protest is baseless and unfounded in Borno State, noting that he had had interactions with officers and sent messages to all police formations in the state.
“I want to make it categorically clear that Members of the Police force in Borno State have no intention whatsoever and were not part of the purported attempt to demonstrate as members of Nigeria Police force.
“The rumour has been going the round that of the 26th of March 2022, some members of the Police Force will embark on Strike Action. The essence of this press briefing is to disabuse the mind of the public and let them know there’s no such plan whatsoever.

CP Umar revealed that Rank and Files and Inspectors within the Police Force will soon receive their kitting free of charge. He said that some of the kitting is already in the Police Central Store, Ikeja, Lagos State while containers with more kitting have already been cleared at the Nigeria port.
He maintained that IGP has received approval for a salary increase for the Police and Tax waiver for Inspectors and ranks and files
“This is a morale booster and it will encourage the police to do more. We are patiently waiting for the implementation by the Federal Government of Nigeria,” CP Umar said.
