What We Know About Godwin Emefiele As CBN Governor

CBN Advises Central Bankers To Ensure Tighter Regulation Of Banks
Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele has not been sacked as widely speculated.

Gatekeepers News reports that earlier on Tuesday, a report emerged that President Muhammadu Buhari had sacked the CBN governor.

Checks by Gatekeepers News show that this is false as the CBN Governor is still in office and working.

The sensitive nature of his office makes any news from there even more delicate, hence the need to make further checks into the veracity of the now-viral fake news. Gatekeepers News checks further prove that the news of his dismissal is untrue.

Emefiele was first appointed to head the apex bank in 2014. He was reappointed in 2019 for another period of five years by Buhari owing to his performance and achievement.

He is the only person that has served two terms as CBN Governor. Reappointed for a second term in 2019, Emefiele is expected to serve till 2024.

The 60-year-old economist has reached the retirement age and may decide to resign his position as the CBN Governor for his Presidential ambition.

As of the time of filing this report, Emefiele is still discharging his duties as the governor of the apex bank. He has not been sacked nor has he resigned.

Gatekeepers News will update Nigerians should any verified report emerge from the government.
