Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has won the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Gatekeepers News reports that Atiku has defeated Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers to become the flag bearer of the party ahead of the 2️023 Presidential elections.
Atiku has polled 371 votes to defeat Wike who has the closest number of votes – 237.
The former Senate President was able to secure 70 votes, while Governor Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom State, Southern Nigeria polled 38 votes.
Former Senate President Pius Anyim garnered 14 votes, while former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose and Sam Ohuabunwa got 1 vote each.
The only female Presidential Aspirant of the party, Tari Oba Oliver Diana also got one vote.
Veteran journalist Dele Momodu, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, and other aspirants were unable to secure any vote.
Gatekeepers News earlier reported that Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state stepped down for Atiku at the presidential primary of the party.
Governor Wike on the other hand had earlier vowed to remain in the party even if he fails to win the primary election.
Atiku who hopes to be the No. 1 citizen of the country has contested the office five times in the past.
